“Di Atas Kayangan” takes us back to the 15th century in the glorious Malayan empire of Kedah. It is the tale of an unexpected friendship between four individuals: a royal prince, a common thief, a protective sister and a wealthy heiress. They are worlds apart, but life throws them together and the one thing that unites them is their thirst for adventure. So they set sail on a journey to explore the seas and learn beyond their lands. Along the way, they meet many colourful characters and discover cultures different from their own. But nothing is as it seems. Will they reach their destination? Come along and find out!
Now does that not excite you and puzzle you at the same time? ‘Tis the hallmarks of a magnificent show. Haha. So when is this happening?

UKEC and MSSM proudly presented the “CV and Interview Workshop”! The objective of the workshop was to serve as a platform to help and guide students in the north-west of UK. It provided students the skills in applying for internships or placements that require them to submit CVs and attend interviews. There were discussions and presentations held by an experienced speaker.
The Teh Tarik Session was held in conjunction with Manchester Malaysian Night 2012 Audition. This event also served as a platform to bring Malaysians and non-Malaysians together to enjoy some of our local delicacies such as karipap, roti canai and murtabak. Besides that, as its name suggests, teh tarik was the exclusive drink on sale for this event. MSSM’s aim to hold another teh tarik session is to provide its members a truly Malaysian afternoon. So get excited and look forward to our next Teh Tarik Session!
Recently, the MSSM supported the Malaysian Community of Old Trafford (MCOT) in their latest event. It was the Kejohanan Debat Intelektual Manchester. The debate was held on 18 FEBRUARY 2012 in the Student Union. It began at 9am and ended at 8pm. There were many debate teams from around the country. Among them were debaters from Liverpool, London and more. The special guest for the event was Cik Aribah.
On 13 February 2012, Petronas decided to hold a career talk to recruit upcoming students for internship and post-graduate jobs. There were a total of 53 participants hailing from many different universities. Students from Leeds, Liverpool and Newcastle were present to hear what Petronas had to offer for the upcoming year 2012/2013. There was also a question and answer session, which allowed the floor to ask interesting questions about their careers and job scope and received immediate answers from the Petronas speakers.
The latest thing that the MSSM committee is working on is… Manchester Games 2012! Yup, it’s one of our two flagship events. And it’s finally on its way. I can feel excitement all around. Haha. Anyway, for the uninitiated, MGames 2012 is basically a day to celebrate sports through the gathering of fellow Malaysians all across the UK in one city: Manchester. We’ve got plenty of different sports to cater to the liking of the many participants we’ll be expecting. It’s all happening on 3 MARCH 2012.
Besides that, we’ve got a special event never before held at any single MGames before, and that is the TELEMATCH! What is it? If I tell you, it wouldn’t be special anymore, now would it. So you’ll have to come to find out. Hehe. And what is a Malaysian-run event without the ubiquitous Food Fair. Rest assured, MSSM has got that covered. The food fair is bound to please the palate and be easy on the pocket. Haha.
After your games, when you’re feeling tired and hungry, come to the food fair where there is lots of food and drinks to be consumed and prizes to be won! There will be 15 booths up for grabs! Registration for booths would close on the 17th of February.
Food wise, there will be many different type of cuisines like Malay, Chinese and Indian. If you’re thirsty and just want to pick up a quick drink, don’t worry, soft drinks would be sold as well!
However, this is NOT only a food fair! When you’re feeling bored and looking for something to have fun, come join us for games such as Darts, Guessing Games and Can Toss which would be held IN the Food Fair! Trust me, your efforts would NOT be wasted because there would be PRIZES to be won!
Very recently, on 31 JANUARY 2012, the Malaysians of Manchester were graced by the presence of YB Khairy Jamaluddin. He came especially to hold a talk at University Place for the benefit of Malaysian youths. The event was held by MSSM in conjunction with KUSMA. Apart from Khairy presenting to the members of KUSMA and MSSM, there was also a question and answer session which allowed the floor to pose interesting and challenging questions and receive immediate answers from Khairy himself. Definitely an event that will be remembered by all who attended.
One of the many interesting events that was held by MSSM was the Sesi Bual dengan Ustaz Amar. It was held on 7 JANUARY 2012 in the Council Chambers of the Student Union. The talk was focused on religion, but not any one specific religion. Hence, the talk was able to reach out to Malaysians from all walks of life, regardless of our religion. And in the end, it was yet another successful and intellectually stimulating event held by the Malaysian Students’ Society of Manchester.
